Satpol PP Holds Competitions in Area Under Klender Flyover

Tens of East Jakarta Satpol PP personnel hold competitions to enliven Indonesia 69th Independence Day anniversary which held under Klender Flyover, Klender Urban Village, Pulogadung Sub-District, Sunday (8/17). This event is deliberately held to guard as well as anticipate street vendors from hawking there again after the area controlled early this month.

Some of the competitions held are tug of war, sack race, chess, and table tennis. Besides Satpol PP personnel, these competitions are also joined by local residents. As a result, the event went lively.

“In commemorating our independence day, not only we’re demanded to guard the area under flyover, but on the other side we’re also holding competitions so our men would not get bored. The residents welcome this event well. From the vendors and public figures until urban village and sub-district apparatuses, all take part,” uttered Head of East Jakarta Satpol PP, Syahdonan.

According to him, this event is also utilized by Satpol PP to socialize the plan to transform the area under Klender Flyover into an interactive park that is child-friendly.

Meanwhile, Rusdianto (38), a vendor, admitted happy with the competitions held by Satpol PP. In this occasion, he feels there is no distance with the officers who usually controlled illegal vendors.

“Coincides with August 17 moment, we can blend in,” he said.
